My Biography

About Me

Karpal KaurI am mindful that every individual is unique and so are their needs. I work Psychodynamically which means helping you to understand your emotions. I am passionate in exploring the most important relationship which is with ourselves. We will explore childhood development patterns and how this has been carried through to all your past/present relationships. As a result, identifying the common pitfalls that has led to an imbalanced emotional state of being. Rebuilding that self-awareness by exploring many coping strategies for authentic transformation to take place.

I have experience of working with adults and young persons (18+) with a range of issues.

I also have 15+ years of experience of being a Samaritan Listener. Dealing with callers/in person that are emotionally desperate, needy and suicidal. Offering a confidential/non-judgemental space in order to allow them to communicate their pain and suffering, an emotional outlet to seek any possible hope.

I am a full member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and abide by their Ethical framework. I take part in regular Continuing Professional development training to remain current and aid good working practices.

How Does it Work?

The process I follow to engage with you is outlined below.

Step 1:

Schedule a Free Telephone Consultation

Contact me directly to schedule a FREE 15 minutes telephone consultation.   This will allow you the opportunity to ask any questions.

Step 2:

Schedule an Assessment Session

After the telephone consultation, if you are satisfied, I will offer you a 50-minute assessment session. This will give us both a chance to experience what it would be like to work together.

Step 3:

Schedule Therapy Sessions

After the assessment session, if you are satisfied, we can schedule the therapy sessions. These sessions will take place on a weekly basis, at the same time and day of the week, for 50 minutes. I recommend committing to at least six sessions to fully experience the benefits of therapy.

As a counsellor, I offer support and guidance for a wide range of issues, including ADHD, anger management, anxiety, autism, abuse, bereavement, bullying, co-dependency, coping skills, depression, dissociative disorders (DID), domestic abuse, eating disorders, emotional abuse, family conflict, grief and loss, loneliness, low self-confidence/self-esteem, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), passive-aggressive behaviour, peer relationships, relationship issues, seasonal affective disorder (SAD), self-harming, sexual abuse, stress, suicidal ideation, and trauma and PTSD. I provide a safe and confidential space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and work with you to develop strategies and skills to help you manage your challenges and make positive changes in your life.

What is counselling?

Counselling is talking therapy where I will provide you with a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space. You will be able to explore, discover and clarify whatever has brought you to this point to access counselling.

We all at some point in our lives can feel overwhelmed with the demands of life. Maybe something traumatic has happened and deeply impacted you and it is affecting every area of your life. You no longer feel the joy you once did, and everything feels a lot more of an effort than it ought to be. Maybe you are not even sure what it is because nothing is making sense anymore and you have lost touch with yourself.

Loneliness and isolation seem to have taken centre stage in your life and as a result having a huge impact on your relationships.

It can feel daunting, especially if it is your first time to reach out to a stranger for emotional support but I understand how scary it can feel. By working together, it will allow us to explore how we relate with each other. This can provide clarity of how you relate in your other relationships.

Regular engagement in the therapeutic process can lead to allowing your authentic self a voice. This in turn can lead to reconnecting with yourself, allow greater self-acceptance and deeper understanding of yourself to mindfully navigate within your relationships.

I offer short-term or long-term therapy so it can be flexible to suit your individual needs.
